Why an addiction podcast?
It is estimated that around 35 million people worldwide are enslaved to addictive habits and require treatment. In the United States, 14% of adults are addicted to alcohol, and 46% of adults claim to have a family member or friend that is (or has been) addicted to alcohol or drugs.
I’m one of those people. With a history of alcohol and drugs abuse, I too fell into enslaving habits. You can read more about my story here.
That’s why I have a heart for addicts, for people who struggle with anxiety, depression, and overwhelming stress. To me, I know the answer is always going to point to God.
Even in 12 step programs such as AA, the first step is to admit a loss of control. And the second (and third) step is to submit to God (that He would restore us to sanity). I believe that our secular society does not focus enough on building a faith mindset to help those struggling with addiction.
They want to tell you that the answer is spiritual, but they don’t want to talk about what that actually is. We’re not going to shy away from this– the goal is to prepare you spiritually, which will prepare you mentally to take on whatever battle faces you.
I pray that you join me for the Broken to Blessed Podcast, that it blesses, strengthens, and encourages you.
Let’s do this.
