We never expect divorce
When you say, “I do,” you never think a time will come when you say, “I don’t.”
Truly, experiencing a divorce is like having a house fire. It’s a tragedy no one ever expects. Everything you once knew to be reality is gone, sometimes overnight. The present becomes unbearable and unmanageable. Memories are darkened. And future plans have disintegrated into thin air.
And while your spouse may (or may not) appear to be in good shape, you might be left running around frantically in flames. The stop, drop, and roll method does not work here. Or maybe, you’re standing there watching it all burn to a crisp, feeling helpless to stop it.
So what do we do? Is there anything we can do?

What to do during a divorce
First off, and this goes without saying, but we go into prayer.
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons we can have during a tragedy like divorce. And if you don’t feel like praying, or are having a hard time speaking to God, this is all the more reason to pray. Direct communication with the Father is ALWAYS going to bring healing. We may not see it right away, but eventually you WILL see it.
Second, we need to be sure to find a good support system. Isolating will not help you grow; it will only breed rumination and loneliness. It’s also a trap from the enemy; if he can isolate you, he can make you question everything, even your own sanity.
Signing up for a program such as Divorce Care can help connect you with other people going through the same thing, as well as provide a safe place to share your struggles about divorce. A program such as this will give you the tools you need to make it through one of the toughest battles of your life.
And trust me, you’re gonna need it.
Third, seek out healing materials to help you process the divorce. Understand that this will take time; this ain’t no overnight fix. Podcasts, videos, or books are great resources to rely on, and educate yourself on the process and healing of divorce.
